How to show the EU legal guarantee notice on your Shopify store

If you sell to EU consumers on Shopify, Regulation (EU) 2025/1960 means the harmonised legal guarantee notice has to be visible on your product pages, in the shopper's language, from 27 September 2026. This is a practical walkthrough of what that involves. For the background on the rule itself, start with the explainer.

Read first: what Regulation 2025/1960 requires

Step 1 — Use the official artwork, unchanged

The notice is not something you write or redesign. The Commission publishes the exact artwork and text in the annexes to the regulation, and the shop shows it as published. A tidied-up or re-worded version is not the harmonised notice. So the first decision is simply to source the official notice rather than to make your own.

Step 2 — Put it on the product page, before purchase

Online, the notice has to be reachable before the consumer is bound by the contract. On Shopify that means the product page, not a link buried in the footer or a policies page. The regulation permits a nested, expandable display as long as the full notice opens on first interaction — so a compact block on the product page that expands to the full notice is acceptable, and usually better for the page than a large static image.

Step 3 — Show it in the shopper's language

A notice a shopper cannot read does not inform them. A shop selling across the EU needs the notice in the language of each market — the Commission publishes it in all 24 official EU languages. The clean way to handle this is to detect the shopper's language and show the matching official version automatically, rather than hard-coding one language or asking the shopper to pick.

Step 4 — Add it to the order confirmation email

The regulation expects the information before the order and again in the confirmation. Shopify's order confirmation email is the natural place for the second touch: a short block of text stating the legal guarantee, matching the notice on the page. Because the confirmation email is a Shopify notification template, this is a copy-and-paste snippet rather than a theme change.

Step 5 — The durability label, only if it applies

If a producer offers a free commercial guarantee of durability longer than two years on the whole product, the harmonised durability (GARAN) label applies to those products, showing the number of years, the brand and the model. If that is not your situation, you can ignore the label — but every shop still needs the legal-guarantee notice.

Doing it by hand vs. with an app

You can do all of this manually: download each language's official artwork, add it to every product template, keep the versions in step, and paste the email snippet. It is a lot of repetitive work, and it has to stay correct as you add products and languages. An app that ships the official Annex artwork, detects the shopper's language, and generates the email snippet does the same job without the maintenance — which is what we built Garanti EU to do.

Whichever route you take, the test is the same: on 27 September 2026, can a shopper in each of your markets see the official notice, in their language, before they buy? This guide is information rather than legal advice; for a high-stakes shop, confirm your specific obligations with a qualified adviser.
